Net Zero Heroes is a new project from South Dartmoor Community Energy to help families take climate action and reduce their own carbon footprints.
We know it can be hard to know what to do to reduce your carbon footprint, especially when life is so busy and there are so many other good things you can do for society, your community and the planet.
So we'd like to help you figure out what you can do.
The idea is to start with a fantastic free school workshop and assembly from our partners at Seadream Education, following that we'd love to organise a kick-off roadshow event in the school hall for families and the wider community to drop in after school hours and chat to some experts on reducing your carbon footprint. We'll have people on hand to advise on diet, travel, home energy, waste, and how to get involved in local action. Then you'll be invited to sign up as a Net Zero Hero which means we'll run through a carbon footprinting calculator with you and help you work out which actions are doable and what impact they could have. We can also put you in touch with other organisations that can help you do it, for example if you need to insulate your home. After a few months we'll work out which community has saved the most carbon, they'll win a prize (!!) and we can help you organise a 'plant-based' bring and share street party to celebrate and share your successes with the rest of your community!
Net Zero Heroes is currently funded to run in the South Brent area parishes by the South Brent Community Energy Society, and 9 other towns and villages around the South Hams in Devon by The National Lottery Community Fund.
So far Net Zero Heroes will be running in:
