Five local organisations have received grants through the Portworthy Community Fund in July 2017, generated by income from the Portworthy Solar Array at Lee Moor.
The Fund, containing £5,000, was opened to applications from organisations in the parishes of Cornwood, Sparkwell and Shaugh Prior in May. The aim of the fund is to help improve the sustainability of the communities closest to the array.
The fund is administered on behalf of Bath and West Community Energy who own the solar array. We received applications from 10 groups looking for over £9000 in total, which made the decision making process very tough.
Alan Calcott, Chair of South Dartmoor Community Energy at the time, commented;
“We were delighted with the variety and quality of applications we received to this new community benefit fund. All of the projects would contribute to the sustainability of their community in some way and it certainly wasn’t easy to decide who would get a grant."
